Mission

It’s Not Normal is a platform created in response to the normalisation of gender-based violence (catcalling, groping, sexual assault and harassment) in nightlife. One aim of the platform is to shift the public mindset from “it’s fine, it’s normal” to “it’s not normal

The platform is designed to give a voice to individuals who have experienced gender-based violence in nightlife settings. It allows survivors to share their stories, raise awareness and destigmatise gender-based violence.

Founded as part of a master’s in journalism project at Edinburgh Napier University, It’s Not Normal is built on the principles of trauma-informed journalism. The approach is guided by the standards of the Dart Centre for Journalism & Trauma, ensuring that every account is handled with the utmost care, sensitivity, and respect.

Join us in breaking the silence and creating a future where everyone can feel safe on a night out.
